For those who missed the symposium last month, forestry contractor Joe Turner has sent us a link to three videos of the program.
The videos cover the mitigation efforts by Canadians in British Columbia and Alberta, who have been involved with the beetle epidemic much longer than we have, as well as presentations by local communities and organizations. Both successes and failures are discussed. It takes a little time to down load the videos, but may be well worth your effort. See: http://www.fortheforest.org/ under "Recent Events"

Gilpin County Citizens Initiative
Wes Isenhart, President of GCCI, sent this reminder for Gilpin County folks:
Gilpin County Citizens Initiative
2nd Annual Elections &
Forest Festival
Sunday January 31st – 2-4pm
Gilpin County Justice Center
Community Room
Please join us this Sunday at the Justice Center for the 2nd Annual GCCI Elections and Forest Festival. There will be elections for two board positions and all three officer positions (president, treasurer & secretary). Board positions are for two years and officer positions are for one. Anyone who shows up and signs in is eligible to vote and run for any of the positions. There will be a forum on public issues and goal setting for 2010 after the elections. A proposed agenda is below. If you want to add a topic to the public forum section please contact me at 303 582-5417. We’ll are also arranging to have materials like the CWPP maps and some forest vendors available for those home foresters who are already planning their spring thinning projects or 2010 beetle prevention measures. This is your chance to get involved and speak up about any of these community issues that are important to you. If anyone wants to bring a snack or plate of cookies that would be appreciated. GCCI will provide the coffee.
